Cutting
Fabric A
(4) 5-1/2" x 5-1/2"
(2) 6-1/2" x 6-1/2"
Fabric B
(2) 6-1/2" x 6-1/2"
(1) 5-1/2" x 5-1/2"
Sewing
1/4" seam allowance throughout
Making the HST (Half Square Triangles)
- Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of all (2) Fabric A - 6 ½" squares. Place a Fabric A 6 ½" square right sides together on a Fabric B 6 ½" square.
- Sew a ¼" seam on each side of the line then cut on the line. Press to the dark side then trim blocks to 6" square.
- Repeat with the remaining 6 ½" squares.
Making the QST (Quarter Square triangles)
- Place two HST right sides together with the diagonal lines parallel and opposing colors touching. (Fabric A should face Fabric B)
- On the wrong side draw a diagonal line in the opposite direction of the existing seam. Sew a ¼"seam on each side of the line then cut on the line. Press open then trim block to 5 ½" square.
- Repeat on the remaining HST pair.
Assembling the block
- Lay out the block pieces as shown below. Sew together one row at a time. Press seams to one side, or open. Stitch the rows together to make the block.
- Trim to 15" square.
